Impressive Rot & Termite Damage Repair, Uptown, New Orleans
One New Creation completed an exterior wood restoration and repair project in Uptown, LA focused on bringing damaged trim, siding, windows, shutters, and doors back to sound condition. The work was performed as an exterior restoration and carpentry service, and included both structural repairs and detailed finish work to preserve the original character of the building.
We set up and tore down temporary scaffolding as required to safely access elevated areas. An initial assessment and selective demolition removed damaged siding, trim, and framing so rot repairs could be made at windows, cove, fascia, soffit, and siding. Damaged cove moulding was removed and sent to a local millworks for fabrication, then custom fabricated mouldings were installed where required.
Handrails, spindles, trim, siding, fascia, soffit, and a tongue and groove ceiling were repaired and restored to match existing profiles. Where needed we installed a new vapor barrier prior to installing exterior wood materials, and we applied a prime coat, oil based, to all sides of new wood before installation to improve long term performance.
Window work included rot repairs and custom fabrication and installation of a new window sill. Several damaged window panes were replaced, failing glazing was removed, and new glazing was applied with full cure process. Abatron patching and repairs were completed at various locations, and epoxy waterproofing coating was applied where additional protection was required.
Shutters were disassembled and rebuilt as required. Restoration included sanding and stripping, custom fabricating and installing rails, louvers, and trim, Abatron repairs, and application of marine grade epoxy. Hardware was removed and reinstalled where necessary, and missing or damaged hardware was acquired and replaced as part of the project.
We performed repairs and preparation work at a hidden dormer, applied NP1 sealant at a fiberglass threshold, and replaced damaged weather stripping gaskets to improve seals and weather performance. Daily cleanup was maintained throughout the job to keep the site organized and safe.
Front door restoration required removing and reinstalling doors in the morning and evening over three days to minimize disruption. Doors were sanded and stripped down to bare wood, then finish sanded with 100, 120, and 220 grit. A solid walnut replacement panel was custom fabricated and installed at the bottom of a door, hardware was removed and reinstalled as needed, and two coats of marine grade varnish were applied to complete the finish.
